Born in Saint Michael and raised in Bridgetown, Barbados, Rihanna auditioned for American record producer Evan Rogers who invited her to the United States to record demo tapes. After signing with Def Jam, in 2005 Rihanna's fame quickly grew through the release of her first two studio albums, Music of the Sun (2005) & A Girl Like Me (2006). Her eighth album, Anti (2016), displayed a new style of creativity after her exile from Def Jam. It was her second US top album and included the top-charting single "Work". In her career, Rihanna has collaborated with several artists, including Drake, Eminem, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Ne-Yo, and Shakira. Rihanna is the second-most-sold female artist in the music industry with over 250 million albums sold across the world. She has been a number-one and 31 top ten singles in the US as well as a top ten single in the UK with 30 songs. Her awards include nine Grammy Awards, 13 American Music Awards (including the Icon Award), 12 Billboard Music Awards, six Guinness World Records, the NAACP's President's Award, and an Academy Award nomination. Time named her one among the top 100 influential people in the world in 2012and 2018. Forbes named her one of the top 10 highest-paid stars in 2012/2014.
